Hope’s Cathedral
Hope lies at the center of a man’s heart:
It is the cathedral to which he silently retreats
When his world is shaken, his soul uncertain —
There to seek renewal, strength, immortality.
Though silence shrouds his worldly retreat,
His heart’s caring custodian knows his coming:
She is steadfast, ever-vigilant … one with him;
His soul-weary steps she hears, his tender heart she feels.
And when, at last, he stands before hope’s door
He finds himself lost in the beckoning smile of his Eve,
Who rises to greet him, takes his hand, bids him, “Come,”
And whispers, “I love you. I need you. I want you.”
Together they enter hope’s hallowed hall
Where shackles cannot bind, the world cannot see.
Renewed, strengthened, and consecrated by their love,
He knows life’s fullness; his immortality is assured.
